MEXT Japan Scholarships 2022-23 are accepting applications. Now is your chance to study in Japan's finest universities without having to take the IELTS exam. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) has announced a scholarship programme for international students for the academic year 2022-2023.

Candidates with good academic records are able to apply for a scholarship to study in Japan for free, as well as living and monthly allowances. The degree programmes will be available in both English and Japanese.

MEXT Japan Scholarships 2022 are available for international students to study in Japan's undergraduate and graduate programmes. Students seeking for MEXT Scholarships in Japan do not need to be proficient in Japanese or have confirmation of English language ability through the IELTS or TOEFL. Applicants must submit their applications through their country's Japanese Embassy. All of the applications will be evaluated and shortlisted.

Application deadline

MEXT Scholarships are available for the duration of the programme. In Japan, bachelor's degrees take 4 to 5 years to complete. The Master's programme takes 2 to 3 years to complete, while the PhD programme takes 3 to 4 years. The deadline for applications is June 2, 2022.

Who is eligible to apply

The following criteria must be met in order to apply for MEXT Scholarships. The candidate must be proficient in English. Applicants from foreign nations must have established strong diplomatic ties with Japan. Undergraduate applicants must be at least 17 years old and no more than 25 years old at the time of application Applicants for master's and doctoral degrees must have finished their 16th and 18th years of study and be under the age of 35. For Students applying to study Japanese they should be between the ages of 18 and 30 and enrolled in a Bachelor's degree programme.

Required documents 

The MEXT Japan Scholarship requires the following documentation. Japanese MEXT Scholarship Application Form, the Bachelor's programme applicants will need their High School diploma in addition to their highest degree & Applicants for Master's programmes must submit their Bachelor's degree, while PhD applicants must attach their Master's degree, Transcripts of the highest degree/diploma must also be supplied in attested form, Letters of recommendation, a scanned copy of their passport, a resume or curriculum vitae, photographs, a language competency certificate, and a statement of purpose are all required.

How to apply

MEXT Scholarships is an online application process for applications sent to the Japanese Embassy in Addis Ababa. To apply, first go to the website, then download the Scholarship application and read it thoroughly before filling it out.  Send all required documents via postal services to the Japanese Embassy. After screening you will take a written test administered by the Japanese Embassy, and then interview for a scholarship. Finally you wait for the results to be announced on the website and via email.
